When you are so accustomed to Windows 7 or even Windows XP, switching to Windows 10 can seem quite difficult. Luckily, there are a bunch of apps you can install to try and bring back some of the features you had gotten used to, such as StartIsBack that restores the old school Start menu.

Basically, StartIsBack replaces the built-in Start Menu of Windows 10 with a custom one that resembles the Windows 7 one.

By default, the new menu includes shortcuts to the most popular apps you might need on your PC, such as Maps, Sticky Note, Snipping Tool, Notepad, Calculator, Paint, PowerShell and Cortana.

The right side of the menu displays the most commonly accessed folders, like Documents, Pictures, Music, and Downloads, while also providing you with shortcuts to the Control Panel and the Run window.

Nonetheless, you can tailor StartIsBack according to your preferences, by hiding some of these items and displaying some additional ones. For instance, you can add the Favorites or the Videos directories, OneDrive, Network or Recent Items, along with Administrative Tools, Devices and Printers, and so on.

You can also decide if you prefer any of these items to be shown as links or menus.

Another way to add a personal touch to your new Start menu is to tamper with its looks. Not only can you change the appearance of the Start button, you can even apply custom coloring to the taskbar and the Start menu.

Speaking of the taskbar, you can enable centered icons, dynamic transparency and segments with only a few mouse clicks.
